A new champion crowned at an event run exclusively by the fans!!!
Greetings once again everybody! Unfortunately, this article is not being written from the comfort of my living room this time. This column is being written at Texas Children's Hospital in the heart of downtown Houston, Texas.
Yours truly was not at the event last night at Johnson Coliseum. This past Thursday, I had to admit my 17-month old son to Texas Children's for a couple of different issues. The biggest concern is the fact that he barely weighs 18 pounds at this point, and he will be a year and a half on May 25. So first and foremost, I want to thank those that have called and stayed in contact with me over what has been an extremely stressful 96 hours for your favorite Heartthrob.
All the while, there was a show last night in Huntsville at Johnson Coliseum. I've had a bad habit lately of renaming it the XWO Coliseum, given that Sam Houston State University has been so gracious in allowing XWO Reborn to bring the best wrestling in the state of Texas every month. From what I hear, last night had a special twist.
The fans of XWO got a chance to get interactive, as they were allowed to pick the matches and stipulations for some of the matches they would see later in the night.
For those of you wondering, Team XL is still your XWO Tag Team Champions. However for one night, the titles were split and defended in seperate matches. The 7-foot monster Kash made an example out of Roc Hardway in a Powerbomb Match, where the only way to win was to simply be the first to powerbomb your opponent. And with no disrespect meant towards the Dynasty of Perfection member, but the list of people that could successfully powerbomb the big man is nearly non-existant.
"Superstar" Ryan Johnson held up his end of the tag titles, as he picked up a big win over Slim Sexy in a Ladder Match to retain his half of the XWO tag straps.
Personally, I like the idea of getting the fans involved in the matches. It makes things unpredictable and definitely shakes things up a little. And that's definitely needed in this business, as it changes so rapidly these days.
The big news of the night however, came out of the main event, as High Roller Hayze defeated "Sexy" Sleve DeMarco in a Superkick Match. Much like the Powerbomb Match earlier in the night, the object of this match was simple: be the first to knock out your opponent using a little chin music. And Hayze iced his opponent with the superkick.
Now here's where things get interesting. WIth that win over DeMarco, not only does that give a lot of momentum to the Dyansty of Perfection, but when XWO rolls back into Huntsville on July 17, Hayze will have full control of the show...top to bottom! Who knows what's going to happen when Hayze is in the driver seat for the night!
XWO rolls back into live action on May 22 in Walnut Springs, Texas, and as mentioned on July 17 at the Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville. I will be taking care of previously booked engagement on the 22nd, but I will be live and ready to rock in July when XWO throws a huge summer bash at the Coliseum!!!
Well that's all for this edition of BTS, as it stands...the time is now 5am. I have officially not slept since Thursday morning because of everything that's been happening. Hopefully I'll hear from the doctors today as to when lil man can go home and we can get out of this hospital. I'm grateful for the exemplary care that has been given by the wonderful medical staff here at Texas Children's Hospital, but I am SOOOO ready to get out of here, as you might imagine.
So that said, I hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful week, and as always...until next time...SEE YA RINGSIDE!!!
"Heartthrob" Phillip Barnard
